Sculptural Wax Carving is a two-day creative workshop designed to explore the expressive and sculptural potential of wax carving in jewellery making. This artistic course focuses on developing volume, movement, and form while guiding you through the creation of dynamic three-dimensional designs.
During the course, we begin by covering the fundamentals of constructing a three-dimensional base for your design. From there, you will develop carving techniques to create dynamic forms and sculptural shapes, introduce relief elements, and experiment with surface texture with different waxes and their individual features.
Also we explore the building-up process, using heat tools and relief wax to add volume and enhance your designs. This combination of subtractive and additive techniques allows for more expressive and sculptural results.
The final stage of the workshop focuses on refining and finishing your wax models, preparing them for casting and ensuring your pieces are structurally sound.
If time allows, we will also explore additional techniques such as:
Creating impressions and textures in hard and soft wax.
Experimental surface treatments.
Spruing your work for casting.
Talented instructor: Erica Marianne Sharp
If you decide to cast your design after the course, you will receive detailed guidance on the best way to proceed. You will also have the option to book an Additional Session to learn how to finish and polish your piece.
While no prior experience is required, students who want to build a strong technical foundation may benefit from first taking the Introduction to Wax Carving course, which provides the ideal structural grounding.
